Perspectives on On-demand Applications (aka SaaS)

Here's a recent article on SandHill.com by Zach Nelson, the President and CEO of NetSuite (a Larry Ellison project), discussing the rise and future of SaaS and-demand application services.  Some notable excerpts:

    • On-demand software may have just reached this tipping point: Microsoft announced it plans to build a suite of on-demand business applications.
    • The very nature of on demand dictates that its offerings must evolve to meet customer needs more frequently – and that will make for a tough game of catch-up for newcomers.
    • The software and services vendors who recognize and conquer the intricacies of the model the earliest, will no doubt become the next industry leaders.

Perhaps even more interesting are some of the challenges to his perspectives posted by the readers.
