    Different types of notifications

Hi we recently started using eProject. I am one of the main project managers with a myriad of projects going on at any given time. I was getting such a large volume of email from the system that I turned notification emails off. But now I have to be very actively reviewing my issues list to know what's new or changed.

Is there another way for me to get notifications? Like maybe a windows notification alert (like MSN uses), or an instant message - something that just nudges me that there's activity on my project?

I saw this in another project management tool we reviewed. Can't recall what it was at the moment.

    Thanks, Jen

    Hi Jen,

I am not from eProject but I know of no way to do what you want...yet.  I think I read this fall that eProject will be adding RSS capability.  That might work perfectly for you.

But the Notifications and Unread items views are not adequate?  It seems to me they are for exactly what you are asking for - a way to see what has changed without receiving E-mails.  My intention is not to discount your question, rather to understand it better.

Jen, You have a couple of choices. 1) You can turn off all notification email and have it go to the Notifications tab. 2) You can have notifications go to email. 3) You can leave notifications on and create a notification rule. This will allow you to be selective about notifications. No matter what way you choose, the notifications will only interact with the email address associated with your user. If you want it go to anywhere else, you will have to ask your email admistrator about email re-direction.

    Re: Different types of notifications

Much like David has mentioned regarding views, I would create a view that shows me incomplete Issues ranked high priority (or impacting the budget by a certain amount or however you rank what issues are important to you) that have a Last Response On = This week.

Determine your ranking criteria and then set the view up to meet that criteria.  Use the  Last Response field as a way of bringing in currently worked on issues.  Use another view with the Deadline or Status fields for those things not being addressed.

Use the filters to your advantage, and where some criteria is not avialable, create a custom field in the application to establish the criteria.

    This assumes you're using PPM6....

John - how does one go about what you describe in option 1 (i.e. turn off all notification email)?
