Changing the Date Format

I have been asked by the staff to change the date format from 16/08/2008 to 16th Aug 2008.

I have been through the manuals and it mentions you can change the date format through cutlure settings but I cannot see this option when I go to General PPM Settings and under the user Culture Setting site does not allow me to change the date format.

I think that merely would change the date order for the specified culture. To set the date to show the spelling of the month (truncated or not) is not currently possible.
