    Resource Manager Viewing Employees' Projects

I have a manager in my department who would like to see all of her employees' projects, but not ALL projects in the enterprise. She does not want to be added to each of the projects. Is there a way, short of making her an executive and then filtering her projects view, to allow her to see projects that her team is working on? Her enterprise role is currently resource manager, and we'd like to keep it there.

    Thanks,

    Karen

The assumption here is that your manager is physically invited to the projects she's managing teams for, and might also be a physically invited to other projects she's simply participating in.  So how do we focus on the ones she's managing?

The Projects Tab only shows those projects that the user is a physical member of, so the Projects Tab is already filtering non relevant projects in that respect.  The next step is to establish which of those projects your user is actually managing teams over that she needs to see and get rid of the peripheral projects she's simply participating in.

You will need to utilize the "Manager" native field and set it to that user's name, or come up with your own custom field and designate your user.  This will allow that user to then Filter on the Projects Tab only those where her name is set in the Views setup.   This will allow her to distinguish projects she’s managing vs. projects she's participating in.

She could also filter on Project Role, but this assumes her role in the projects she's managing is as Project Manager - this would free up the fields.

That's the problem. She doesn't want to be a part of all the projects. She doesn't want all the notifications, as her area has approximately 70 projects going at a time. I've already told her that I don't think this is possible, but that I would check. It seems a reasonable request that she can view what her employees are working on without having to physically join the project.

It might seem reasonable in your instance however it is not common for most of our customers to buy our collaborative project management tool then exclude their managers.  Executives, yes!  But managers, no.   The best solution is providing your manager with reports.

If you give a little more info about what it means to "view what her employees are working on" I can give you more specifics about reporting options.

It would be helpful to communicate this need to our product team if you have a moment!

I was curious which notifications that she was worried about.  I have access to all of our current project and hardly receive any day to day notifications.  I think there is a way to achieve what you are asking for without any real modifications.
