Changing the default item in a pick list.

If I change the default item in a pick list custom field, will I lose/change existing data? or do you just lose/change existing data when the actual custom field type is changed?

Changing the default will not cause you to lose data. However items that have the current default will need to be edited and saved to call out to the new default so you should not expect everything to switch over to the new default automatically.

You will lose data if you delete the picklist option or manually move it around through the list ordering (without using the sort option).
