    Capacity planner: Net availabilty toggle

Is there a way to retain the "toggle" of Net Availablity  for each project for longer than the browser session?  Since the default upon entry to Capacity Planner calculates the Resource Type net avaialablity using both planned and unplanned projects, I end up spending a considerable amount of time "untoggling" the UNPLANNED projects from the availablity calculation.  Then I lose that when the browser session reloads (after clicking "Save all Changes" for example).

The "toggling" of  Net Availability isn't an editable field someplace is it?

    Thoughts appreciated.

Re: Capacity planner: Net availabilty toggle

    Hi Robert,

We've already begun working on a "persistence" engine for a lot of view-settings in our product, which should include the Net Availability toggle in the capacity planner.

These settings will be persisted as database values across your sessions, and includes settings such as...

    - Show All in list views
    - Project Hierarchy view in the "Projects" tab
    - Team Manager and Capacity Planner "toggles" (including weeks/months)
    - Executive view formats (investment map, scorecard, timeline gantt)

The idea is for users to not have to constantly re-set view-settings.

I can't commit to you exactly which release this will go out in, but I can tell you we have already started working on it.

    Hope that helps.

An option in the meantime -

Projects: if you are toggling net availability to "off" for any duration I would set the State to "On Hold" and then in the Capacity Planner filter out "On Hold" projects in the view.  The Net Availability at the bottom of this application only shows you Net Availability for projects/reqests that are in the view.  This means if you wanted true net availability for all projects, all projects would have to be displayed in that view.

Requests: since we can't put a request on hold, you would need a custom "request status" field for the request with On Hold as an option (if you aren't using approval status).  Then follow the above scenario.

Re: Capacity planner: Net availabilty toggle

    Hi Robert,

To me that's a bug, the application should retain that setting beyond the browser session.  I notice in ours that we do have projects of type "Ongoing work" that always stay as 'planned,' which furthermore leads me to feel that this is a bug (although eProject is fond of spinning that into 'feature request.')

I would file an enhancement request to allow for the inclusion of such native fields into dynamic app views; that way, you would build a view to just show the 'planned' projects.

I'll have to revisit this topic myself, as I thought they stayed planned once you set them.

Pete, he is referring to the Net availability Toggle, not the Capacity Planned/Unplanned toggle.

Net Availability Toggle simply removes that project from the equation for 'what if' scenarios.

Set Capacity to Planned/Unplanned does in fact remain to whatever the user saves it as in that session or any session thereafter.

Haven't visited this issue in awhile.  I like the persistence that's now in the project view.  Can you tell me where the Net avaialablity toggle persistence might be in Capacity Planner?
