Project State - can it revert to Request?

We have several Project Requests that went through the Project Generation process before we fully realized what that process did, resulting in a Project State of "Not Started."  We would like to move these back to "Request."  Can this be done?  In the Project Update screen, "Request" is not one of the selections for Project State field values.  Would we need to remove the Project Manager and change dates, etc.?

A project can not be set back to a Request state however the request is still available for being rerouted.  Typically the project is updated with a status update, set to On Hold with comments indicating that the request initiating the project has been rerouted for approval.

We use the resubmit for approval process with projects that start as projects to do research, sizing, planning, and then resubmit them for approval once we want them to go through the prioritization and project approval process. The original project that you create stays in the "project world" while it is moving through the approval process again but its not working as well as we would like. Once you resubmit it for approval, you are no longer able to add/edit reviewers, edit the project profile, etc from the Project Request tab.
