    Saving within Capacity Planner

When working in Capacity Planner, we turn off projects by toggling the Net Availability. We also select / deselect Resources Types that we want to work with.. None of these selections are saved when we press the "Save All Changes" button. If for some reason we have to leave the page and return back - all these changes are lost, and we have to start all over again.

Someone - please suggest on "how to" work in the Capacity Planner in a productive way.

We do need to improve the items captured via the save option however today it is really only capturing the hours per month (if that is the enterprise setting) for each resource type per project, and if the capacity is planned or not.  The other items (net toggle and viewed resource types) are not communicated to other areas of PPM6 so they are not captured when the save button is pressed.  This would be a feature to add.

The net toggle is meant to be an instant on use only so we would want to hear more about your specific use case of why you would save those projects that are net toggled to "off".

Usually those projects that are net toggled off are done so at a time of planning and at the end of the session if they are left off, then why?  Are they to be cancelled or put on hold?  If so, they need to be edited and have the Project State changed to reflect that they are not to be included in the Cap Planner and then your cap planner views should filter accordingly.

The Resource Types that are selected typically show up for projects that have those resource types in use by default, and upon de-selecting they should remain off for your browser session (I believe it is retained in the cache) but I will have to double check that.

    Re: Saving within Capacity Planner

    Steve,

    Thank you for your response.

Once a quarter our Resource Managers from Products, Pricing, Operations, QA, and IT gather to review the project requests (projects in pipeline) and use the capacity planner to plan for projects and resources. It is not unusual to have 70 to 80 project requests to review. Our preference would be to have all the project requests be turned "off" (within the capacity planner) - so we can view the starting capacity of the various roles. We would then like to toggle "on" one project at a time - based on their priorities and resource availabilities. Once we are able to "fit in" a project - we will then move the project to the planned section and approve the project request. If not - we will leave the project request in its "off" state.

Currently - the default is that all the projects are 'on'. I have to manually toggle all the projects "off". During the discussion / meeting with the Resource Managers - if for any reason I leave the Capacity Planner page and return back (even after saving the page) - All the project requests are back in their "on" state. That is frustrating - because - we have to start our process all over again.

I hope I made sense and was able to communicate my issue. If not - feel free to give me a call. I will be happy to discuss this with you.
