    Sharing of a Resource

I have a resource that is shared by two profit centers. Each profit center expects to get 50% of the resource. As a resource manager, how do I manage this in eProject?

Sarma, Currently, a resource can only belong to one resource manager in eProject PPM6. The resource will have to be managed and staffed by one resource manager. I would suggest you put in a product improvement suggestion if you have other needs. Another solution can be obtained if you assign tasks and tag the tasks to different departments for reporting from the new timesheet solution.

    Re: Sharing of a Resource

    John,

Thank you for your quick response.

In my situtaion - the resource is not shared between two resource managers. The resource is shared by two different profit centers. The solution you gave will probably work from a time reporting perspective. I am trying to solve this issue from a planning perspective.

By the way - you mentioned a 'new" timesheet solution. Could you detail the functionality of the new solution?

    Re: Sharing of a Resource

    Sarma,

Have you considered a "Cost Center" custom field?  This would not affect any of the standard Task/resource reports or tools, but you could then use a custom report to derive the values you need.

Depending on whether you put the custom field on the task or the user and the kind of calculations required, you might need a crystal report to collect all of the data you need, but this seems like a good path to start exploring.

    Cheers,
    Erik

    Good suggestion Erik.

    Sarma,
if you add the field to the task, the PM is the only project role who can edit the field. The nice thing about having a task field is the granularity of reporting.
