    Importing Project Request in PPM6

Can project requests contained in a CSV file, be imported into the Project Requests application in eProject PPM6? If so, how is this done? (I could not find any import menus tied to Project Requests.)

    Alan,

I am not aware of any way to import a CSV file for a project request, but I have a better option for you.  You can create a webform from a project request type and post it to your website or other location.  Anyone can fill in the form and submit the request and it will show up in the Project Request tab.  Additional fields can be made available once the request is in eProject for selection criteria or other priortitization information you may need.

Backfilling project request data via bulk import would be handy but is not going to be high on our radar as a development item unfortunately.  Unless of course you get a huge volume of new requests every day from individual users?  I'm assuming it's more of a one time import to get things caught up.  The method that John mentions is our most common business use vs. backfilling which is what the import process would generally be used for if it existed.  Depending on the number of requests, one could most likely fill in the webform pretty fast for each one (via cut and paste) - can you say Temp agency?

Re: Importing Project Request in PPM6

Thank you for the response. Steve is correct that loading several project requests at once would most likely be a one or two time gig.

We are planning on using the web form for Project Requests so that anyone in the company can submit a request. However, as you have stated, and I just experienced, not all of the custom fields that I have added to the Project Requests application show up on the web form generated. Is there a limitation on the number fields that can put on a web form?

Be sure that you are making those fields "viewable" after creating the custom field by editing your request.

Other than that this is a good question.  I am not aware of what our field limitations are for Projects/Requests.  Project fields was bumped up to 60 or 100 custom fields in 5.0, which I'm sure carried over for PPM6.  These fields should not be restricted to the same limits as Dynamic Applications (25 numeric/25 alpha).

Are you at more than 60 fields?

Also, certain fields may not display such as create date and item number, and calculations because they are created after the form is submitted.

If you've done all this, then what are the field types that are not displaying?

Thank you the reply, but never mind. I found the fields displayed. The web form is created inside a browser frame with its own right-side and bottom scroll bars. The browser window view was upper-left justified (placed) and it was hiding the web form's right and bottom scroll bars. When I moved the web form's scroll bars I saw my fields in the lower bottom of the form. It's too bad that the web form won't utilize the browser's scroll bars instead.

Doesn't sound like it's functioning the way it should.  When you generate a webform from the Project Request Types Action menu you should get a "Save/Open" prompt.  If you choose to open, then it will open in its own new window (not frame).

Also, this should be done in MSIE and not Firefox.

Speaking of webforms...I cannot seem to find where to get or generate the webform for project requests.

    Using PPM6...

    Thanks!

Sure, go to the Admin area and Project Request Types.  If you click on the Action tab next to a project request, you will see generate web form.

Ahh - silly me.  Thanks!  Was not where I was expecting it...but at least I know where to go now!

    Thanks again!
