    Merging Projects

We have seen an uptick in the number of duplicate projects entered into our Daptiv enterprise.  For example, team "A" may enter the project for "Create Blue Widget" and then a week later, team B has some work to do on the blue widget and owing to a lack of communication they enter their own "Create Blude Widget" project into Daptiv.

Thinking out loud, I have thought of the following work arounds.

    (1) A gatekeeper that approves all projects for Teams A and B.
    (2) A report that runs daily indicating all new projects and is mailed to everyone in Team A and B.
    (3) Ultimately, better communication between the teams.

(We are currently not using the Project Request feature; at some point, this may be the best way to go, but everyone in our Daptiv community does not have the proper amount of time currently to implement Project Requests, e.g., creating Project Request types).

For the duplicate prjoects that already exists, we will probably create new parent projects and have each of the dupe projects under the parent as children.

If anyone else has run across this issue, I am interested in your opinion.

    Re: Merging Projects

    Andrew,

Being able to merge two projects would be great because we have run into this as well.  For our part, we settled on your first solution and have a gatekeeper within each of our separate directorates who is responsible for reviewing and approving project requests.  We did this to control the inflow of data, to ensure some standardization of info into the database and to provide a level of financial oversight -- no project will be approved without the nod from the local financial analyst to signify that real funds have been set aside and committed.  It's not a perfect solution because we do experience some delays in getting things started up but our level of project chrun makes it workable.

    Good luck!

Thanks Darlene -- appreciate your help.  Out of further discussion on this, it seems like it would be a help if there were an enterprise setting to allow/disallow projects with the same names.  If this is not in the greenhouse, I will do some planting.

     Regards,
