    Universal Transparency

    Hi,

I would like eProject to enable universal transparency if projects in the sense that any person in a company can view all projects but can not edit them without appropriate IDs.

It seems as a necessary requirement to me since in our company many cross-functional team help each other on a project while, officially only a single team is enrolled as project members. Also a certain director or manager would want to view a collection or all of the projects but would not be a part of it.

I think this feature is necessary.

Let me know what you guys think about it.

    thank you

    Re: Universal Transparency

This is often a common request but always requires clarification because you do already have that control at certain levels.  What is your definition of "View all projects"?  Do you mean project profile and status data, application data, or both?  Is it just "Edit" you don't want them to have or any control?  What is the level of drill down you want them to have if any?

    Solutions we've used:

    • Create a workgroup called Visibility Only, and create that role (or use Guest) for each project type.  Add your people to that workgroup, add that workgroup to each project.  As new people are added, drop them into the workgroup.
    • Add your users to a template (even if it's just a blank template) as guests and then create all projects from that template
    • Modify the Executive Profile into various profiles that are equal to RM, PM, TM and Guest.  Leave the Executive Tab available however.  Define an uneditible view for of projects for what those users need to see, set the permissions so they can't edit projects.  This gives all users visibility only, without having to be a member to the project.

    Re: Universal Transparency

    Hi,

You presented an apt perspective and good question.

What i would like is to have a guest ID and password floating out for anyone and everyone in the whole corporation to use it. This guest should be able to view the project profile, status data or application data as desired.

Look at it this way, if eProject were a small city with all functionality, we want everyone to be able to view the city to its minute details at all levels. But such spectators should not receive any notifications and such spectators might or might not be project members participating in the city.

We just want the eProject contents at all levels to be visible to every one in the company. We need a semi-automated solution which is not tied to a certain project or group of projects and which need not be set up again and again. We just need eProject to be automatically transparent to people. And we want to give them customized user ids only when they decide to be the members of one or more project. Until then they are all, spectators and any ad hoc person in the whole firm should be able to see anything at all in eProject.

    thank you
