    Project Hierarchy: Parent/Child Inheritance

I was wondering if I could get some help on this issue... In the Daptiv help screen, it notes: "a parent Projects inherits its health based on the poorest health of any child Project, and the Parent's scheduled start and end date are determined by the earliest scheduled start date and the latest scheduled end date of any child Project"  I'm finding that my Parent projects will inherit the poorest health of its child projects, but it will not update the start/end date information.   I was wondering if there is an option to turn on this functionality that I could tell my Administrator, or if it is perhaps a problem within my environment. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

This might be a tricky problem to capture because it depends on which application you are viewing the info in will change functionality (part of the problem is old functionality hasn't been removed in regards to St./Fn dates).

Projects Tab:  If a Parent project is an Ongoing type and you have date fields exposed (technically they should be blank but...) then they will adopt the child projects earliest and latest dates.  Recently I have noticed that they default to Pl. Start = date it was created, Pl. Finish = 1 month out.  Again, Ongoing types shouldn't have dates to begin with but some areas they do.

Executive Tab, Timeline View - the Pl. Start and Pl. Finish dates should adopt it's children project dates on this view format.

Let us know where you are viewing the dates specifically at the parent project level and what type of project are the parents.

    Steve,

Here's an example of this from the reporting standpoint.

I have a report (the Director's Portfolio) that list projects and programs.  When a program is listed and the separate projects are included under it, the planned finish date and scheduled finish date of the program don't seem to come from the component projects.

Project #  Project Name   PM          Phase    PlannedStart    ScheduledStart    PlannedFinish      ScheduledFinish

    135          Stellar CMS     D. J.        Execute  1/31/08            1/31/08               8/31/08                8/31/08

    102          Stellar 2.2        D.J.         Execute  2/15/08            3/3/08                8/15/08                 8/29/08

    150          Stellar 3.0        D.J.         Execute  2/15/08            2/15/08              7/15/09                 7/15/09

Note that the first project is the overall program for the second 2 and does not have any tasks.

Why wouldn't the Planned Finish date (entered through the Project Profile) for the 2 projects cause the Planned Finish date of the program to change.  Same thing for the Scheduled Finish dates (taken from the latest scheduled tasks for the 2 projects)?

     Thanks!

    Darlene
