Gantt chart view for calendar items

    Hi there,

has anybody tried to produce via WI sort of Gantt chart for calendar items? We are tracking holidays and travel via calendar and I want to produce report that would show me in Gantt chart view when people are out for holidays and travel. I tried to amend the project task Gantt report that is supplied with WI as sample report but was not successful. I think the challenge here is to link the DAY field (that I want to have as column) that is under TASK application and calendar items that are residing under CALENDAR application.

I know that workaround for me would to start tracking everything in Tasks application and then use the Task gantt, but there has been already too much data enetered into Calendar and thus do not want to go this way and spending hours of transferring the data from calendar to tasks.

    Any thoughts are highly appreciated!;)

    cheers

    stano

I have to think this would be possible, but I doubt it will be a simple undertaking.  I'd recommend you start by making a copy of the default Gantt report that ships with PPM, and try to reverse engineer the rendering of Gantt-style bars based on your Calendar item start and end dates.  The default Gantt report is a very complex report that includes a lot of data elements that probably wouldn't be necessary for your Calendar-based version, perhaps you can re-use the useful bits and strip out the extraneous information.

There is a lot of conditional rendering and complex data evaluation that drives the report, and it's all interrelated, so save copies as you work through it.  I once tried modifying some of the fields included in the default report a while back and managed to completely break the report.

Re: Gantt chart view for calendar items

thanks! it works now, I found a stupid mistake I did, I put filters on the JOIN querry rather than the initial querry itself. It works perfectly, I put START and END date of that appointment instead of the task start and end date, replaced task name with appointment date, amended the propmts and conditional formatting and I got the result I wanted.

So, net net I recommend to use the original Task Gantt chart as basis when somebody wants to create Gantt chart reports from any of the dynamic application, but as you rightly said, you need to save a copy first in order to not loose the original Task Gantt when messing up the new report.
