The only things specifically planned with regard to resource management at this time are some performance and functional enhancements in Team Manager. While we will certainly pay some attention to Capacity Planner in the future, we don't have anything explicit defined yet. There is some tangential work regarding the concept of "work management" that will likely have some kind of impact on all Resource Management features, including Capacity Planner.
That said, before you go about restructuring all of your projects as a workaround, please consult with your Solutions Consultant (if you have services time at your disposal), or submit another forum post with your desired results and we can collaboratively help you define the most appropriate way to address your planning and reporting needs in the interim.
