    Sales-PM Handover

I'd like to automate the handover process between our sales and PM departments. I thought I can start with 2 project types (Bids) & (projects) so that the bid manager will manage the project untill it gets handed over to the project manager. To automate this, I have tried to use the template application to copy the project from the "bids" type to the "projects" type but I ve found out that this wouldnt work because the project type is a core functionality in a template.

The rationale behind copying the project is to have a clear baseline at the costing stage with initial schedule, cost, resource estimates and not to loose any information/documents gained or generated while bidding for the project.

So I guess this leads me to 2 questions.

    1) How can I copy a project from one project type to another?

    2) How did other PPM6 users out there managed to automate the handover process?

    Mohamed,

I have a different paradigm for you.  Make one project type for both projects and create a custom field to differentiate between the project types.  Activities can now be shifted between managers and project types by simply changing a field.  All your views can be grouped by the new fields.

I have been preaching this technique for years.  By managing the differentiation of your activities using custom fields, you won't have to throw away a active project and create another therefore losing your history.  The project can morph.

I use the same technique when I use my RAID (Risk, Action Item, Issue, Decision) application.  I modify the Issue application to handle all activities with custom fields. The Issues application shows up in the Executive view, all activities can be shown from one Enterprise tab and grouped by type.  This is very effective and efficient.
