    Exporting Views into Excel

Has anyone figured out a way to export views into Excel? I know that you can do this from the reports, but given that the reports don't capture all of the data that's provided in the views (for example, when doing Item level reporting it does not report project level data like in the views) I need to download the views into Excel.

    Any ideas are welcome.

Well, as convoluted as it may sound, you can actually just copy the view and paste it into Excel.  Here's what you'll want to do:

    1. Select the "Show All" option to get all of the view records on one page.
    2. Click and drag to select all of the records you wish to pull into Excel, then Copy them.
    3. Paste the selection into a blank Excel file, then save the file as a .csv.
    4. Close the Excel version (don't worry about saving it since you have the .csv version), and then open the .csv.  This will strip out the HTML formatting like background colors, fonts, etc.

You may have to do a little cleanup, especially if you have multiple groupings in the view, so consider adding the grouping fields as columns in the view, then you can summarize them in Excel as you wish.

It's a bit of a workaround, but it actually works fairly well for shorter to medium length lists.  The one gotcha is that it tends to insert a blank row between records, which will have to be removed in the Excel file.

For this, I rely on Crystal reports. I can create the report I want and esport to Excel or create the report and graph.

Crystal is also an option, of course.  But for those who don't have access to CR, the old-fashioned copy and paste should do the trick.  Either method does mean a couple extra steps but will get you an Excel version of the view until we introduce future export options.

The copy and paste was great and easy to use! Thanks for the tip. I didn't mind the few extra steps. Trying to use CR would have been too time consuming and a drain on technical resources for something that I would like to use time and time again on very different views that I may create on the fly.

    I really appreciate your assistance.
